Keeping your Social Web Backed Up
We get questions from bloggers all the time… The most common one is “How do I backup pages on TypePad?”. So being the web guys we are, we checked out some documentation about a nice plugin for Firefox named ScrapBook. We installed it and put it to the test. And, you know? This works for every Web 2.0 we surfed!
ScrapBook is a new way to keep all that stuff you have on any number of sites safe with a local copy that your online backup can automatically archive for you. With one program! No command line this, install plugin that, it just saves it so you can put the pieces back together if any of them should go bad on you.
How you are wondering? Follow along and do it the easy way.
A First, go to the ScrapBook download page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/427). Just click the green Install Now button and then restart Firefox when it tells you to.
B Once Firefox has restarted, you’re ready to use ScrapBook.
C Go to a website you’d like to save with ScrapBook. When your there, click “Capture Page As” on the menu.
D Use “Capture Page As” to set the depth of links you want to copy. This is a important! This is how all the links on your page get automatically backed up. If you had the depth set to 0 (zero), you wouldn’t be able to copy those extra pages. You’d be able to if it’s set to 1. But if it were set to 2, you would have saved all the secondary pages, etc.
E After you’ve selected the different options, click Capture. It’s now saved on your computer! Now, go to the ScrapBook menu and click Show in Sidebar. You can now see the captured page list.
To review, here’s what we have so far? You now have a local copy of all the content on your FaceBook, etc. page. So if anything goes south, your covered. But just like Ron Popiel says… “But wait, we’re not done yet”.
If you have a online backup product like OPENRSM on your computer just make sure that it’s configuration has your personal files selected for backup. That way you can have all your social websites backed up and preserved with the rest of your computers essential data. And Firefox runs on windows, Mac, and Linux all the same. Not only will your computer have a full featured internet attached storage backup, but your social websites will be too.

Internet Backup Solutions for Business
Without ready access to their data a business just can’t operate. That is why everyone is trying to find the best data backup service available. The newest and the most efficient way of backing up your data is through online backup services. But before we get into cloud backup strategies, there are some interesting facts that need to be on your mind.
- Without their data large enterprises are said to lose about $50,000 peran hour.
- Keeping that in mind data loss costs are believed to be in between $100,000 to $1,000,000 per year.
- Around seven percent of companies that have had a major data loss survive over five years.
These figures give you an idea how data backups are essential for your business to function properly and like I said, while there are a lot of options, cloud backups such as OPENRSM Cloud Backup is the best choice that you can make.
One of most commonly used backup methods is the tape back up solution. This kind of data backup requires larger investments in hardware and people. Also, other forms of data backup are network attached storage, external disk drives and optical devices such as CD and DVD. One of the major disadvantages to all of these strategies is that they are limited to being an onside backup. This means that anything bad that happens to your site, also happens to your backup.
Because of this, the internet backups are very much the next wave of data storage and backup service. This is because cloud backups use the internet to transport encrypted backup data to dedicated storage facilities designed to keep your data safe even if something bad happens to your own location.
Another reason why Internet Backups are better is that they give you an amazing amount of flexibility in tailoring your backups to your needs. For example, internet backups let you schedule your backups to make the most of your existing resources when your systems and available bandwidth arn’t being used as much.
Also, you are not restricted to the limited capacity that DVD and CD-ROM media imposes on you. DVD and CD storage are very limited in space which can only accomodate the smallest amounts of data. They are okay for saving quick need items but not very reliable for backing up business data. Just imagine if you want to back up an entire database? How many DVD/CD ROMS will it take to get this done? This presents no problem for online backups.
Internet based backup services are one of the newest, and most reliable, methods of protecting your information. The services that they offer and the advantages that you can gain through them is very hard to overlook.

Internet Attached Storage is Online Backup on Steroids
When it comes to your documents, photos, and data there is a great option for safe storage that doesn’t involve disks, tapes, or gadgets that can get lost, stolen or damaged. Web Attached Storage can protect and serve your data to you anywhere, not just in your office or home.
Although files on your computer are safe from many threats, there is still a chance of fire or flood, or a computer–generated disaster, like hard disk failure, virus, worms or trojans damaging the files that hold your data. It is nearly impossible to recover Computer data in all but the most ideal of circumstances. And if you have a laptop computer or netbook theft is a very real danger.
Web Attached Storage is a cost effective and practical option. Since your private data needs to stay private, but available, all files are encrypted before transfer to keep it available but only accessible by you. Password protection is always provided for your security.
When using Web Attached Storage there are some considerations that are key. Some guidelines include:
Continuous Backup
The more often you backup your data, the less likely information will be lost. File synchronization and network drive availability are features of the best Web Attached Storage providers.
Keep local copies
Though Web Attached Storage services are very secure it’s smart to keep important files on your computer where you can access them locally. Thus making it easy to mirror data to your Web Attached Storage space.
Clean it up
Archiving data is useless if you can’t find that data later. The file and folder structure of your own disk is mirrored with Web Attached Storage. To do so is a good idea.
Don’t lose your password
Passwords are required for Web Attached Storage. Always keep your username and password safe so your personal files aren’t compromised.
Financial and banking files are examples of files that can’t be replaced. And there are other files you need to get from anywhere, like sales information and photos. Important information to upload to Web Attached Storage includes:
Photographs
Movies
Sound Files
Financial Records
Word Documents
Documentation
Web Attached Storage is the logical extension of simple online backup with features you can use every day, like network drive and file synchronization.
Which Web Attached Storage product do we like? We particularly like the features, cost, and reliability of OPENRSM CloudBackup. It gives a great balance of features that go further than online backup that is particularly cost effective. We can’t say enough good about it.
